Department of Social Studies Education
The primary aim of the Department of Social Studies Education is to train professional Social Studies Teachers who will educate future generations according to the needs of the age; who think critically and make multidimensional decisions both individually and professionally; who have problem solving skills; who have both theory and practice competence; who care about human rights, democracy and ethics. There are 6 faculty members (1 professor, 4 associate professors, 2 doctoral faculty members) working in the Department of Social Studies Education and approximately 209 students enrolled in the undergraduate program.
Registration Acceptance Requirements
In order to study in associate and undergraduate programs in any higher education institution in Turkey, students are required to take the national student selection exam conducted by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Students are placed in these programs according to their preferences by ÖSYM according to the score they get from this exam.
Earned Degree Requirements and Rules
Successful completion of the compulsory and elective courses corresponding to 240 ECTS and having a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 is a prerequisite for graduation. Occupational Profile of Graduates
Graduates of the Social Studies Teacher Education program are appointed as Social Studies Teachers to public and private educational institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education with the title of “Social Studies Teacher”. In addition, our graduates can work in classrooms, educational materials design and marketing, publishing organizations, publishing houses, workplaces that develop educational materials. Graduates who want to make an academic career in the field of Social Studies Education or in other fields related to education in Turkey or abroad can work as lecturers (research assistants) in the academic units of universities if they meet the necessary conditions.
Structure of the Curriculum
Social Studies Education Undergraduate Program is a 4-year program. Students can complete this program by taking compulsory or elective courses offered by the Department of Social Studies Teaching in Turkish and Social Sciences Education, other departments within the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education and other faculties and colleges at Sinop University.

Information About Department
History:
Sinop University / Faculty of Education / Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education / Department of Turkish Education; At the Executive Board meeting of the Presidency of the Council of Higher Education dated 03.11.2011, it was established in accordance with Articles 7 / d-2, 7 / h of the Law No. 2547 amended by Law No. 2880 and started teaching in 2015.

To train Atatürkist teachers who have national and universal qualifications required by science, art and technology; who learn to learn, who are open to development, who value people and the environment; who aim for continuous success and who are committed to modern, democratic, secular Republican principles in accordance with the legislation in the Turkish National Education system. With its academic staff consisting of 3 faculty members and 2 research assistants; It is aimed to train Turkish teachers who are committed to the values of “Modernity / Love – respect – tolerance / Reliability / Honesty / Transparency / Having responsibility / Having team spirit / Participation / Creativity / Productivity / Preserving national values / Commitment to ethical values / Sensitivity to the environment”.
General Characteristics of Turkish Education Department:
The Department of Turkish Language Teaching consists of a Turkish language teaching undergraduate program that trains teachers for secondary schools. The Turkish language teaching undergraduate program covers a 4-year education consisting of two semesters each. During the eight semesters, students have to pass 240 ECTS (147 credits) compulsory and elective courses specified in the curriculum. “School Experience” course in the VIIth semester and “Teaching Practice” course in the VIIIth semester are applied courses. These practices are carried out in secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. For this, cooperation with Sinop Provincial Directorate of National Education is provided. In the 4-year education and training process of our department, students are given field and field education courses, teaching professional knowledge courses and general culture courses. These courses are as follows: 1st Year: Writing Writing Techniques, Turkish Grammar, Literature Knowledge and Theories, Written Expression, Oral Expression, Ottoman Turkish, Atatürk’s Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, Foreign Language, Introduction to Educational Science, Educational Psychology, Year 2: Turkish Grammar, Turkish Folk Literature, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature, Scientific Research Methods, Computer, Teaching Principles and Methods, General Linguistics, Effective Communication, Instructional Technologies and Material Design, Year 3: Comprehension Techniques, Children’s Literature, World Literature, Community Service Practices, Special Teaching Methods, Classroom Management, Expression Techniques, Turkish Education for Foreigners, History of Turkish Education, History of Civilization, Measurement and Evaluation, Year 4: Theater and Drama Practices, Turkish Textbook Analysis, School Experience, Guidance, Special Education, Language and Culture, Turkish Education System and School Management, Teaching Practice. In addition to these courses, elective courses are also offered in eight semesters.
Aims of Turkish Language Teaching Undergraduate Program:
To be able to use Turkish language properly, properly and effectively, to have sufficient level of field knowledge, pedagogical knowledge and skills related to the field of Turkish teaching, to know contemporary teaching methods and techniques and measurement and evaluation methods, to be able to use information and communication technologies technically and pedagogically, To educate individuals who have sufficient knowledge about the structure and historical development of the Turkish education system, who are loyal to Atatürk’s Principles and Revolutions, who believe in democracy, who are aware of Turkish national, spiritual, moral and cultural values, who have scientific and analytical thinking skills, who can assume the role of researcher teacher, who are sensitive to society, environment, human beings, who are sensitive to society, environment, human beings; to raise individuals who are beneficial to society and who look to the future with confidence. Sinop University Faculty of Education, Department of Turkish Education has only one undergraduate program, Turkish Language Teaching.

Entry Requirements:
In order to enter the Turkish Language Teaching undergraduate program, -To be a high school or equivalent school graduate, -To take the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and Field Proficiency Test (AYT) sessions within the scope of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) and get enough points from the verbal (SÖZ) score type, -To prefer at least one higher education program related to the “Turkish Language Teaching” undergraduate program in the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) Preference Notification Form.
Working Areas:
Graduates of the Turkish Language Teaching undergraduate program are awarded with a bachelor’s degree in “Turkish Language Teaching” and the title of “Turkish Language Teacher”. Graduates of Turkish Language Teaching undergraduate program can work as “Turkish Language Teacher” in public and private secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. They have the opportunity to find a job with a medium income in the public sector and an above average income in the private sector.
